More than 950 million people need glasses but cannot afford them (source: WHO). This shockingly high number probably surprises many people who wear glasses. For most of us, access to eye doctors and opticians is something we take for granted. Unfortunately, this is not the case in many other countries around the world.

And anyone who wears glasses can imagine how it feels to need glasses but not be able to afford them or have access to them. How do you cope with everyday life and how do you even go about doing your job? In addition to restrictions in their quality of life, many of those affected also have to contend with a loss of income.

Back in 2012, Martin Aufmuth – inventor of the One Dollar Glasses – founded the association with the aim of providing basic eye care for everyone. With a simple modular system that works entirely without electricity, the One Dollar Glasses can be manufactured directly by local people in just a few steps. The prefabricated plastic lenses then just need to be clicked into the frames.

With the help of its own training concept, EinDollarBrille e. V. trains people directly on site in eyeglass manufacturing and as opticians. In addition to providing basic eye care, this also creates jobs.

Under the motto #careforeachother, every year we make it a priority to support an association or charitable organization that makes a valuable contribution to society.
